Questions and Answers
Q. Can I attend the gathering after the ride even if I do not ride?
A. We welcome non-riders to the post-ride gathering, but you should still register as a non-rider and we do hope that you will still make a contribution to LivableStreets.
Q. What about my kids?
A. Children are welcome to participate in the ride if you believe they are capable of safely completing one of the two rides. There is also a playground at the park, several trails, and a baseball field and a basketball court. Please note that no childcare services or supervision will be provided.
Q. How difficult is the ride?
A. This will of course depend on how much riding you are used to and what kind of shape you are in. The short ride is a 20-25 mile ride with a few rolling hills on lesser trafficked (and scenic!) secondary roads. The longer loop is 41 miles, and includes the short ride loop. As motivation, Kimball Farms Ice Cream stand in Carlisle is located at the midpoint of the long ride.
Q. Will there be a “sag wagon”?
A. We are not planning to provide a sag wagon, but it is quite possible that several informal sag wagons will show up. We will know more as the registration list fills out.
Q. Will this ride be guided?
A. You will get a detailed map and turn-by-turn directions, and there will be limited signage, but it is really self-guided.
Q. Will food be provided?
A. We hope to provide some drinks and power bars through sponsors but the post ride-lunch is bring-your-own. There are BBQ grills and picnic tables at the park and people should bring or arrange to have brought anything they would like to eat after the ride. We may provide some coolers to keep things cold during the ride. There is also a Shaws Supermarket very close to the Park, in Auburndale on Commonwealth Avenue. Please note that alcohol is prohibited from this event due to park regulations.
Q. How can I help?
A. If you are willing to help out, whether you are riding or not, please register, and then send us an email at [email protected], indicating your status and willingness to help. We will organize a list of tasks as the ride gets closer.
